Method 1: Suction Cup (Fastest, Most Flexible)
Suction mounts (standard on Phoenix K-series mirrors and C3) grip the windshield glass and reposition in seconds. Press the base on clean glass, flip the lock lever, and twist the camera to your preferred angle. Choose a spot behind or below the rearview mirror — out of your sightline and, in most countries, legal. Re-press the base monthly in hot climates; glass cleaners leave film that weakens suction over time.
Method 2: 3M Adhesive (Most Secure)
Adhesive mounts (Phoenix S4, F7, A5) use automotive-grade 3M tape that survives car washes, -30°C winters and 80°C dashboards. Clean the glass with alcohol, warm the pad slightly in winter, press hard for 30 seconds and leave it overnight before driving. The trade-off: removal needs a hair dryer and a plastic pry tool — fine, because you'll rarely move it. Always mount clear of the wiper sweep area so the camera never gets splashed.
Method 3: Mirror Clip-On (Streaming Mirrors)
Smart mirrors like the K65, K90 and D70 strap or clip over your existing rearview mirror — no glass contact at all. Installation is a five-minute job: slip the bracket over the mirror, tighten the strap or screws, route the power cable down the headliner edge with the included plastic trim tool, and plug into the 12V socket. The rear camera cable runs along the headliner to the back window; take your time and it disappears completely.
Cable Routing: The 15-Minute Professional Finish
The difference between a messy install and a factory look is the headliner tuck. Push the cable up into the gap between the windshield edge and the headliner — it holds without tools. Run it across the top of the windshield, down the A-pillar (the trim pops off with fingers), under the glovebox, and to the 12V socket. Total time: 15 minutes. The result looks factory-installed and never blocks a vent or your view.
Hardwiring for 24-Hour Parking Mode
Parking mode is the feature that catches the person who keys your car at midnight. It needs constant power, so it uses an ACC hardwire kit (Phoenix PK5, $15.99) that connects to your fuse box. Two modes matter: ACC mode records only while driving, and parking mode keeps a low-power watch, waking on impact or motion, with an 11.6V battery cut-off so your car always starts. Installation is a 20-minute DIY: tap the ACC and constant fuses, ground the wire, route the USB to the camera.
